Masking runs through this work as strongly as ever — my face here is only a silhouette.
It came out of the cycle of dark thoughts that reaches me from time to time, where I imagine a world without me in it. Picturing the pain my loved ones would feel soothes me in a way I know is not healthy.
Thick black swatches of oil with floral motifs etched out of pink coloured pencil, one of my favourite combinations. Alongside motifs pulled from the saree fabric and the spiral, there is a new symbol: the toon. A caricatured version of myself, born out of my love of cartoons, carrying the feeling of nostalgia and filling a gap where people who look like me were never drawn.
Their flatness is deliberate. They read as flat by the standards of how we perceive, but in a higher dimension that may be exactly how we look — and I am not willing to rule out what else might be possible for us.
The toons are a guide, ready to pull me out of the cycle. The large pink flower is the string of a kite, ready to reel me back in.

At this time original artwork will only be shipped within Canada and the United States due to cost and logistic limitations. Original work is not subject to the free shipping policy. The rate at checkout is a base price, and any remainder will be sent as an invoice via email.
