I first began incorporating sari fabric into my artwork during undergrad in 2015 as a way to explore my experience as a Bengali immigrant raised in Canada. While preparing for my first Artist Project in 2026 — Canada’s largest independent art fair — those ideas resurfaced naturally through this piece.
Split explores the feeling of carrying multiple versions of yourself at once. Different identities emerge depending on what life demands, and this work sits in the tension between those shifting states.
The red sari fabric references intimacy, memory, and devotion. In many South Asian cultures, red is associated with marriage, and here it becomes a reflection of my relationship to art itself — a lifelong commitment to making.
Using sari fabric around a male figure also introduces a quiet conversation around masculinity. As a child, being artistic often made me feel disconnected from other boys, especially while moving between cultures and environments. Yet materials like this became central to how I learned to see beauty and express myself. In this piece, the fabric becomes both vulnerability and protection.
Throughout the painting, motifs from the sari are etched back into the surface by hand, layered within a visible grid structure used to transfer the image onto the panel. Architectural distance markings are also embedded throughout the composition, referencing my background in architecture and my fascination with systems, measurement, and repetition.
The faded figure on the right can be seen as an earlier version of myself dissolving into the present — a reminder that identity is never fixed, but constantly reshaped over time.

What payment methods can I use?

Can I make changes to my order after it’s been placed?
We do everything we can to fulfill orders quickly and unfortunately cannot guarantee being able to make updates after an order has been placed. These changes include removing or adding products and/or changing the delivery address. If a mistake has been made with your order information, it’s quickest to create a new order with the correct information and then let our Customer Service know!
Do you offer e-gift cards for international customers?
E-gift cards are only available to customers shipping within the U.S.
How Do I Set Up A Subscription Order?
We will deliver products to you as soon as reasonably possible. Orders are usually dispatched between 1-3 days from the date of the order being placed. Please contact us our customer service team if your delivery has not been received within the dates described.
How To Return My Items?
We do not currently offer free returns to overseas customers. You will therefore need to cover all costs of returning any items to us yourself. We advise that you mark your package ‘returned goods’ to avoid further duties. Remember: We strongly recommend that you return any items via a registered trackable service and obtain and retain proof of posting as we do not accept responsibility for items that fail to arrive with us.
Can I return/exchange my order?

I didn't receive my order confirmation, can you help me?
Most of the time, the order confirmation email can wind up in your junk mail folder! Take a peek there to see and if it isn't then we'd love to help you out :)
My tracking says that my package was delivered, but I don't have it. What can I do?
We're terribly sorry for this frustrating experience. If this happens we advise that you check in with your neighbors and try to check low visibility areas around your house first. And in the case that you're in an apartment building, try checking in with your concierge if you have one!
Secondly, your local postal service might be able to provide additional information about the whereabouts of your package.
Finally, there are instances where your package will be marked as delivered but won't actually be delivered for a couple of days. If after waiting this long, please email in and we'll be happy to help!
How long do shipments usually take?
Shipments in North America take around 10 days on average, and shipments outside North America takes around 11 - 20!
How does the work get packaged and shipped?
12x16, 16x20, and 18x24in prints are securely packaged in a plastic sleeve with a cardboard backing inside a rigid mailer.
24x36in prints are securely rolled in acid-free tissue paper, and shipped in a rigid cardboard tube.
It's been 3 weeks and I haven't recieved my order, what can I do?
This can be frustrating, but it can happen on rare instances. This time frame can mean the package is delayed for some reason. You can try contacting the courier based on your tracking information to get a specific update on your package. If it doesn't arrive by the 4th week then please email in and we'll take care of you!
