CRTFD LVR BXY – Nashid Chroma

While printing all the artwork, one of the prints came out with a beautiful glitch effect due to an unknown mechanical error. I felt like it should be celebrated because of the importance of "variants" in Across the Spiderverse. Since it cannot be reproduced, this will be sold as the "Variant 1 of 1 Edition" to the highest bidder.

I watched Across the Spiderverse 4 times because I couldn't believe what I was seeing! Each time I walked out of the film, I found myself feeling like I learned something new about colour and a wealth of inspiration that I had to channel into my own artwork. I had a strong image in my head of Gwen and Miles soaring over a slanted opalescent New York. The piece is a far departure from my usual work and really challenged me to learn a lot of new techniques, but this was an intentional move to push myself to tap into the things that truly inspire me!

This is a 1 of 1 collector's edition canvas of my painting for the Home is Toronto collaboration with Peace Collective. It is a canvas print of my digital painting embellished with oil paint marks to accentuate the colour and texture of the CN Tower deck! This is the first canvas that has recieved this type of technical, traditional treatment which adds to its rarity.

Here is a first look at the piece I designed for my Peace Collective collab. Toronto is the city in which my art was born. So it was a tremendous honour to collaborate on this design with one of the city’s most iconic brands!

I was inspired by an image of the CN Tower piercing through the clouds on a foggy day. I saw the perfect opportunity to translate the soft clouds into a bed of lilacs with Peace Collective’s notorious slogan “Home is Toronto” embedded in the sky. Finally. the yellow orbs represent the steady emergence of bright new talent in the city.

Drake Nashid Chroma Painting

This piece was made when the initial hype for Drake’s album in 2020 was circulating! It was an exercise of detail to capture the intricacies on his jacket and sweater. Capturing the materiality of his garments was challenging, but I learned a lot from observing the nuances of light while painting it. The exploration of colour was inspired by the Certified Lover Boy music video, and I tried to push some of the tones in his skin to push my understanding of chroma. I was still in the midst of my daily art challenge, so the floral on this piece was simply an aesthetic choice because the lotus vaguely resembled an owls wings to me. This is currently my second Drizzy piece.

Who is Nashid Chroma?

Nashid Chroma is a Toronto-Based Digital Pop Artist and his work explores the threshold between the Iconic and the Anonymous.

The compositions and visual motifs are inspired by each icon’s upbringing, influences, or the emotions that they evoke from their performances. Floral and geometric adornments are loaded with meaning to humanize the person in question, but they also visually abstract the portraits to feel disconnected and object-like.

Finally, Nashid uses bright saturated colour as an aesthetic anchor to bind his body of work into a cohesive collection. Chroma refers to the colourfulness of something and he continuously explores new ways to push the boundaries of colour in every new work he produces
